This week Year 2 have been learning all about 'sound' and how we hear. Mrs Govender and I are blown away by how you are making efforts to include technical language in your writing. Keep up the great work!

  4. Sound is like messages that travel to your ear, sound waves vibrate whilst travelling to your ear but you can't see the sound waves. Sound waves can make things move back and forth but you still can't see the sound waves. Like in our experiment the rice danced on the plastic wrap when the drum was going.

  5. If you flicked a glass bottle in space, you wouldn't hear it because you need air for the sound waves to travel along and in space there is no air.

  6. No, sound waves cannot be seen as well as heard. During our experiment the rice danced more than the beans, salt and marshmallows because it was the lightest.

  10. I do not think that sound waves can be seen. I really enjoyed the experiment, it was fun and I love doing experiments. We banged on a drum and it hurt my hand. We banged on the drum and tried to make the beans, rice, salt and marshmallows jump. The salt jumped because the sound waves vibrated them on the plastic cling wrap stretched over the bowl. Sound could not make all the things move. Sounds are all around us.

  15. I did not see a sound wave during science. The rice moved more than the beans, salt and marshmallows because they are all heavier than the rice.

  19. Sound waves can only be heard not seen. I enjoyed making the different types of sounds with the different types of drums. I learned that water can vibrate. I learned that there are 3 parts of the ear called outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.

Looking forward to your great insights on this fascinating topic.

  23. The ocean is important to us because it gives us food from the sea. Also ocean's are important to the weather because it makes the clouds that bring us fresh water when it rains.
