Term 4 Week 3

This week Year 2 continued to investigate shelters. We focused on how different shelters suit different climates and how they are built to suit their environments.

Comment on what your house, or another shelter you use, is made from and how it's designed to suit your environment and needs.

Keep up the great work Year 2!

Mathematics strategies

In Year 2 we have been talking about the importance of checking the accuracy of our answers and proving our findings when working to solve problems mathematically.

We have been exploring various strategies. Here are some  examples of the jump strategy on an empty number line for addition and subtraction and the split strategy to assist you when problem solving at home.

Remember to use these in your homework this week and keep up the great work Year 2!

Whisper phones

This term year 2 have been using whisper phones when reading independently. (Thank you Trevor and Mr Shelton for assisting is in making them)

Whisper phones allow us to read aloud to ourselves without disturbing anyone else. When we read with whisper phones we get to hear what we are doing really well when we read as well as what we need to improve.

Share with us what you like about using the whisper phones when reading.

Term 4

Welcome to the final term in Year 2!
Can you believe that it is already here? We certainly cannot.

Already, we have done some amazing work. We have worked on narrative writing, full of descriptive language, looked at the value of Australian money and begun to look at different types of shelters.

Comment below on your favorite new learning so far this term.

Year 2 Week 7

Wow!
What a busy time we have had this week in Year 2.

We dressed up as characters from some of our favourite books, looked at how books light up our life, were entertained by a book week performance, explored life through the eyes of those who lived 150 years ago on our excursion to Vaucluse House and enjoyed having our parents visit our classrooms to look at our Numeracy block!

Enjoy some photos below and the comment on one or more of the following questions.
1. What character did you come dressed as for the book week parade and why?
2. Name a book character that would you compare yourself to and explain why?
3. Explain one interesting fact you learnt about life in the past from your visit to Vaucluse House.
4. What olden days game did you enjoy playing at Vaucluse House the most and why?

Week 5

This week we have continued to do some great learning and investigating. We investigated the mass of various shopping items using units and equal arm balances and continued to investigate the properties of materials by doing a science experiment about 'force' using playdough. We have also begun to enjoy some of your speeches about games that used to be played in the past.

Comment on the following:
- What playground games are played today that were also played in the past?

- Explain the materials found on playgrounds today and name some of their properties.

- What do you understand about force?

- What did you learn this week about measuring the mass of objects?
